Newborn Session Information
Cost: $350- includes disc/print release
Congratulations! What a wonderful time in your life. And thank you for contacting with an interest in photographing your newborn. This is my favorite kind of shoot and I think these photos are so important because our newborns are only this ‘new’ for such a short amount of time. The photos will become keepsakes for you and your little one.
When scheduling, it is very important to have the shoot within the first 8 days of life if at all possible. During the first 8 days babies are more curled up and sleep easily while being moved around. And this is usually before baby acne or colic sets in, if they are going to have either. So if baby comes early maybe you can send a text/email/Facebook message and we can schedule something for when you get home.
For newborns I typically come to your home and I use only natural light. I often use mom and dad’s hands as props in photos. You and siblings are welcome to be in some photos but the main focus will remain on our newest model. If is best to ask visitors to come another time unless they are there to help with siblings. A calm and relaxed atmosphere is key.
I will bring a natural light studio into your home. Once I assess the best spot in your home for the shoot, I might need to move some furniture around in order to have the right space. I also bring lots of props- buckets, bowls, hats, wraps, cocoons and even flooring. I mostly photography newborns nude or in unique wraps so do not worry about outfits.
It is best for the baby to be full and sleepy for the photo shoot. I know easier said than done! Allow a few hours for the session. If baby needs to eat in the middle no big deal, he/ she’s the boss!
Once the shoot is over I will edit and enhance photos and upload to my client album site: http://velsephotography.smugmug.com/within a week or two. From this site anyone can order prints (only if you want) or simply view the photos. I will also mail you a disc with the edited images within a week or two and a print release form and web ready images with my logo. These images are for social networking sites.
