About Me

Thank you so much for stopping by!  I think it is nice to know about your professional photographer before you book, so here it is-

I have been a paid professional photographer for 15 years now.  I knew from an early age that I wanted to do something creative with my life.  I loved art and could spend hours in museums.  In college, I decided I wanted to use my creativity and turn it into a profession.  I knew it would be a long hard journey, but it’s what I loved most and I wanted to share it with others.

I studied fine art and photography at Purdue University- yes, I know, a photographer that actually went to school for it, crazy these days, right!?   I developed my own film, printed my own images, and intently studied light.  I received my BA in Photography and Fine Art in 2002.  I understand light, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance and how all of these things tie in together to allow perfect exposure.  This is also where I first discovered Photoshop and I have been using it for over 16 years, and to this day, I am still in love.  Photoshop provides endless possibilities of making an image pop.

After college I photographed weddings for about 7 years, but then discovered my love for newborns and babies-this was my calling!  We built my studio in March of 2012, when lugging around newborn props and equipment became too much. This was such a monumental decision in my career.  There was no going back after this, but I knew I was to this point.  It’s usually all or nothing with me,  and I chose all!  I love my studio and spend lots and lots of time there.  I use a mix of natural light and studio light to ensure every shot has perfect exposure.   The studio is jam packed with all of my favorite props, including about 40 handmade newborn and baby hats, 30 plus baby girl tie backs, bowls, baskets, buckets, cribs and even a vintage high chair.  I have loads of backdrops and we created a real wooden floor/ drop that I love to use!  One side is white and one side is dark brown stained wood that I can flip during a session.  And who knows what I will have in the years to come!  I am always changing things around.  I literally can’t sit still:)

On a personal level, I am a mom, a wife, a friend, a sister, a cousin, an aunt and a daughter.  I love my family, I love my friends and I think both are so important to have a healthy fulfilling life.  I have a son- Henry, born December of 2008, a daughter Ruth, born in December of 2010 and another son, George, born in July of 2014.  They are my favorite things in the world and I am madly in love with them and madly in love with documenting them.  I love my pugs, I love food- especially anything spicy and I really love sitting at home in my pj’s.

I have an unbelievable and supportive husband, Chris.  This type of job is crazy and overwhelming at times.  He is an awesome dad and often takes the kids to the park when he gets home from work so I can edit.  He is funny, outgoing, and compassionate and loves our kids.  It doesn’t get much better than that.  Thank you, Chris!

I am still and will always be on my creative journey.  I am a perfectionist as well as an artist- it’s a dangerous combination.  I am always looking for the ‘new’ and the ‘better’.  I am constantly on the look out for cute props and I am always updating my equipment and trying out new techniques to keep my images exciting.  The most important thing to me in my career is that I create images people love and cherish.  It’s become a personal endeavor and I take it very seriously, I want you to love your photos and have fun during your photo shoot.

If you are thinking about booking a session please contact me!  I’d love to hear from you and learn a little about your family.  If you are on the fence about having professional photographs, let me talk you into it!  It’s important; these babies are only babies for a short time, but your photos will last forever, beyond our years even!

**Thank you Apples and Honey for the awesome maternity/family photos, we had so much fun with you, Kelsey!!**
