• Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to my photography blog! My name is Jan and I am a formally trained photographer. I studied fine art and photography for 4 years at Purdue University where I graduated in 2002 with a BA in photography, and minors in communications, advertising and philosophy. I still haven’t figured out what to do with the philosophy minor. While in college I shot my first wedding, after college I was a ‘wedding photographer’ after having babies I am an ‘everything photographer’ but my favorite is newborns and little ones. There is nothing better!

I love being a photographer. I have to be a photographer. I could not imagine being anything else in life.

    Enjoy!

Iaria’s Italian Restaurant

Recently Mr. Larry Bird was interviewed by USA Today and when asked what his Indy restaurant of choice for Super Bowl fans would be he chose this place,  Iarias’s Italian Restaurant.   So, I was called out because they need some pics fast for USA Today’s website:)  This restaurant has been around for a long long time, it is family owned, nostalgic, famous and delicious!  I really want Diners Drive In’s and Dives to do a spot on them!  I worked here for a little bit out of college while I was getting my photography business rolling.  I have a lot of fun memories here.  And its one of those places that you just have to visit to get the full experience.  The walls are adorned with autographed photos of celebrities and politicians that visit the restaurant, the bar is full of little wooden celebrity caricatures, the bartender (one of my favorites in town) Dominic, is always there for a wisecrack and a beer, in fact he served our whole bridal party a beer on my wedding day, and the staff is one of a kind.  This place is just cool, all the way down to the napkins.  And THE FOOD!  The spaghetti sauce is amazing,   they make the most fabulous blue cheese dressing and the lasagna is out of this world.  Everyone has their favorite thing and everyone’s favorite thing is different.  That is when you know you can’t go wrong.   So if you haven’t tried it, what are you waiting for? GO!  Iaria’s Italian Restaurant, 317 N. College, Indianapolis, 317.638.7706

Madelyn, 8 Days New

Here are a few more of beautiful Madelyn. What a little darling! She was as sweet as could be and slept most of the time. I love newborn shoots, there is nothing that compares to it.

Before and After!

I’ve had some questions about the editing process so I thought I would share a couple before and after newborn shots. Photoshop is every photographer’s best friend BUT it starts within the camera.  Below is an example of an SOOC (straight out of camera) shot and then the edited version.  Below that is an example of umbilical cord removal.  I would say about 75% of parents like to have it taken out of photos.

Henry and Ruth are 3 and 1!

Here are my babies!  Henry turned 3 on December 18 and Ruth turned 1 on December 15, I know great planning to have two babies 3 days apart a week before Christmas.  It’s exhausting to say the least, which is why I am just now posting this!  I took them for their shoots separately so I could focus my attention on them and they did surprisingly well.  Ruth thought she was cool sitting in a chair in the woods and Henry finally gets what mommy does for a living and loved being the model.  He is always looking at other kids pictures and now he got to see himself.  Oh- and the balloons helped!   I love these two babies more than I could ever imagine, they inspire me, exhaust me, make me laugh and keep me grounded.  Love you Henry and Ruth.  Happy New Year!
